Stage 1
- Demonstrate a non-panicking casualty
- Demonstrate a panicking casualty
- Demonstrate an unconscious casualty
- Enter shallow water safely and confidently
- Swim front crawl or breaststroke continuously for 25 metres
- Tread water for 1 minute, using arms to occasionally signal for help
- Swim Lifesaving Backstroke over a distance of 25 metres
- Holding a buoyant aid, use any leg kick to travel 15 metres
- Using a buoyant aid, hold the HELP position for 1 minute
- Climb out of deep water without using the steps
Stage 2
*Clothing = full length trousers and a top with full length sleeves worn over swimwear
- Demonstrate a shout and signal rescue of a casualty 5 metres away
- Using a buoyant aid, demonstrate a throwing rescue of a casualty 5 metres away
- Enter deep water safely and confidently
- Wearing clothing*, swim freestyle continuously for 50 metres
- Tread water for 1 minute, using arms to occasionally signal for help and turn around 180 degrees
- Swim Lifesaving Backstroke continuously for 50 metres
- Whilst floating on your back, scull head first for 10 metres
- Using a buoyant aid, hold the HELP position for 2 minutes
- Holding a buoyant aid, use any leg kick to move 25 metres to the poolside
- Climb out of deep water without using the steps
Stage 3
*Clothing = full length trousers and a top with full length sleeves worn over swimwear
- Demonstrate a reaching rescue of a casualty 2 metres away
- Demonstrate a rope throw rescue of a casualty 8 metres away (coil, throw and rescue)
- Enter shallow water and wade to a casualty 5 metres away; throw a buoyant aid to the casualty; instruct the casualty to kick their legs to the side and to climb out without using the steps
- Wearing clothing*, enter deep water safely and confidently then swim freestyle continuously for 50 metres
- Wearing clothing*, tread water for 1 minute, using arms to signal for help every 30 seconds then move 2 metres backwards; move 2 metres to the right; move 2 metres to the left
- Wearing clothing*, swim head-up lifesaving backstroke continuously for 50 metres, then use a buoyant aid hold the HELP position for 2 minutes 30 seconds
- Remove additional clothing whilst in the water
- Whilst floating on your back, scull head first for 15 metres, then scukk feet first for 15 metres
- Perform a feet first surface dive and swim underwater for 5 metres
- Climb out of deep water without using the steps
